Hazardous locations are areas where flammable liquids, gases or vapors or combustible dusts exist in sufficient quantities to produce an explosion or fire. No other aspect of industrial safety receives more attention in the form of codes, standards, technical papers, and engineering design. Regulatory bodies like the South African Flame Proof Association (SAFA) have established systems that classify locations which exhibit potentially dangerous conditions to the degree of hazard presented. In hazardous locations, specially designed equipment and special installation techniques must be used to protect against the explosive and flammable potential of these substances. Commercial Lighting

This means that the whole venture is geared towards financial gain. With this in mind, target areas for commercial lighting include cinema halls, office buildings, commercial streets, business premises etc. These are areas with high human traffic. Commercial grade products have better drivers, heat sinks, led chips, and lenses, therefore they will last longer than residential grade products. Lighting Design
Lighting design is a field within architecture, interior design and electrical engineering that is concerned with the design of lighting systems, including natural light, electric light or both, to serve human needs. It brings light into darkened spaces, requiring consideration of the amount of functional natural light provided, the energy consumed, as well as the aesthetic impact supplied by the lighting system. Therefore, it is important that the science of light production and luminaire photometrics are balanced with the artistic application of light as a medium in our built environment. Afrilite offers a complete lighting design solution, utilizing our many years of combined experience. We aim to fulfill our customers specific needs by paying careful attention to all aspects of each individual project as each one is different. We offer a complete photometric design at no cost which includes light levels with suggestions of which fittings and lamps to use based on the client's needs

We are the sole agent for Nordland (Pty) Ltd in KZN, as such, Afrilite is a trusted supplier of specialized Zone 1, 2, 21, and 22 light fittings, ensuring safety and compliance in hazardous environments. We have a good working relationship with most of the lighting manufacturers and importers in KZN, and majority of South Africa. This has given Afrilite a distinct advantage over most of the competition, as pricing and product range is extremely competitive.

Industrial and hazardous lighting manufacturer Nordland (Pty), based in Muldersdrift, Gauteng Ltd started out in 1967 as a luminaire importer but it soon became a local manufacturer instead. Today, the company produces and exports a large range of Ex luminaires for Zones 1 and 2. Close co-operation with the SABS ensures compliance with relevant specifications and the company is a permit mark holder for its entire range of Ex lighting products. Products for non-hazardous applications comply with SANS/IEC 60598, as well as Accredited ISO 9001:2008.
